    About

Prisca Razafindrakoto (*1994) is an artist based in Paris. Her journey began at Ensaama Oliviers de Serres, a national school of applied arts and design located in Paris. After completing a program in product design, she turned to the arts and crafts and specialized in metal work.

Thereafter, she started her own practice in late 2019 and moved to her own workshop, devoting herself to the design and manufacture of sculptures and bespoke furnitures

From Paris to Madagascar

Of Franco-Malagasy origin, the blending of cultures lies at the heart of her approach, generating a language of forms that balances surrealism and minimalism. She draws inspiration from tribal arts, encountered during her travels in Africa, as well as from movements like Memphis design.

This fusion also extends to her methods, where she plays with the semantic boundaries of objects, positioning her work between sculpture and design.

The Role of randomness in the creative process

Fascinated by the sensitive and delicate nature of metal, Prisca enjoys deconstructing preconceptions about this material. She approaches it in a light, colorful, and warm manner, presenting metal sheets as soft and voluptuous. Her work forms a dialogue with the material, allowing randomness to play a role in the fabrication process.

A local production

Prisca collaborates with French suppliers and service providers, adhering to ethical, locally sourced, and sustainable production methods. Each piece is signed with a stamp and numbered when part of a limited series.

A pluralistic approach

Prisca explores forming techniques and their impact on materials, both formally and aesthetically. She employs a process derived from the automotive industry : pressurized air injection. This technique allows her to shape her objects by inflating the metal. Compressed and deformed, the metal takes on a dynamic and organic form. During the creation of her pieces, she embraces the unique deformations caused by this technique. Due to its inherently random nature, every piece is a one-of-a-kind product.

She also develops a range of vibrant, luminous colors. Using a flame-heating technique, she accelerates the oxidation of the metal, achieving shades that range from pearlescent gray to fuchsia, yellow, or orange. Each temperature reveals a unique hue, and each metal offers its own distinctive palette, unlocking vast chromatic possibilities for a single piece.
